Sustainability

As we create new playgrounds for kids, we like to think we’re helping get children ready for the future. But it’s also important to create a future that’s ready for the kids. In other words, we have a critical role in ensuring that the world remains a safe and hospitable environment for generations to come. That’s why Burke is committed to a wide range of initiatives to reduce our carbon footprint, save energy, recycle materials and continually reduce the environmental impact of our manufacturing processes. EPA has named us a Green Power Partner, the only in our industry. By participating in programs that support the development of clean energy, we are able to purchase 100% of our electricity usage from renewable sources.

100% of Electricity from Renewable Sources

We are constantly assessing our energy use in our offices, manufacturing facilities and warehouses while seeking to reduce usage wherever possible. Burke is unique in the industry with our participation in Alliant Energy’s Second Nature Program. When combined with our further investment in energy credits from Greenlight Energy, Burke obtains 100% of the electricity to power our operations from hydroelectric, wind and other renewable sources.

ISO 14001:2015 Certified

It’s one thing to say you’re committed to environmentally sustainable operations; it’s another to actually build strict environmental controls into your manufacturing processes. That’s what we’ve done and it earned us the ISO 14001:2015 certification.

Burke’s Campus

Our campus shows what’s important to us. Bike racks and electric car charging stations offer employees and visitors alternative ways to come to the Burke campus that don’t use fossil fuels. Additionally, we initiated an EMAP (Environmental Management Action Plan) in 2019 with a goal to achieve 100% LED Lighting in the entire facility over a three-year span. To date, Burke utilizes over 97% LED fixtures throughout our campus and are well on our way to achieving our goal.
